What’s Wrong with Trump’s Investigating Election Fraud?

by Jacob G. Hornberger For the life of me, I just don’t get the mainstream media’s vehement objections to President Trump’s desire to investigate whether Joe Biden ending up winning the election through fraud. Their argument, repeated from the very moment that Biden was declared the winner and ever since, is that Trump’s claims of fraud are “false” and “baseless.” But secrecy is normally at the core of fraud. While there might be isolated cases where, say, a person is caught voting twice, it’s rare that massive fraud manifests itself immediately.  It usually takes an investigation to ferret it out. Notice what happens if the logic of mainstream media, most of which was vehemently in favor of Biden’s election, holds sway. If there is massive, sophisticated fraud, it is n...

Lockdowns as a Political Tragedy of the Commons

by Richard M. Ebeling Several of the leading European countries are now in the process of implementing a second wave of social and economic lockdowns in the face of new and a rising number of cases of the coronavirus. After bringing their societies to near total halts in the spring of 2020 with lockdowns and shutdowns in the name of “flattening the curve” to not overwhelm medical facilities and, hopefully, stop any further spread of the virus, this new increase in cases has brought about a repeat of the same governmental response: prohibit many human contacts by closing or restricting business activities and ordering people to stay at home. Governments in Germany and France announced new commands closing a good deal of their countries on October 28th, with the German authorities ord...

The Two American Conservatisms

by Austin Rogers “We cannot allow our country to be deprived of the Judeo-Christian values that make it so great.” That is the statement printed on the front of the envelope of a mailer I received recently. It came from an organization called Pray In Jesus’ Name Ministries, and it fits perfectly with the trend of cultural identity increasingly shaping American Christians’ politics I’ve written about previously. “Dear Christian Patriot,” the enclosed letter begins. In the middle of the page, in big, bold letters, is written, “In God We Trust.” I know you’re not afraid to say that out loud.Neither is my good friend, Dr. Ben Carson [to whom the opening quotation is attributed]. After all, you and I both know that God has blessed this nation and blesses those who trust in Him...

Elections and Legitimacy

by James Bovard This year’s presidential election is the fourth since 2000 to be marred by either widespread allegations of voter fraud or of foreign interference. Politicians and pundits have long counted on elections to wave a magic wand of legitimacy over the reign of whoever is designated the winner. But Americans are increasingly wondering if the endlessly-trumped “consent of the governed” has become simply another sham to keep them paying and obeying.  Twenty years ago, America was in the throes of a fiercely disputed recount battle in Florida. Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Al Gore won the national popular vote but the Electoral College verdict was unclear. Florida’s 25 electoral votes would give either Gore or Republican candidate George W. Bush the 270 ...

There Is Only One Solution to Our Problems: Unity and Mass Disobedience

by Gary D. Barnett “We must learn that passively to accept an unjust system is to cooperate with that system, and thereby to become a participant in its evil.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (2012). “A Gift of Love: Sermons from Strength to Love and Other Preachings”, p.26, Beacon Press Voting for any political candidate, and supporting the very system that is at the core of our tyranny, will never solve any problems we face. By accepting and participating in that flawed and purposely created corrupt system, only disappointment and oppression can result. The game of elections is settled long in advance by the real controlling elements of society. It has nothing to do with votes cast, but has everything to do with pre-planned outcomes and agendas meant to enslave the population at ...

Free Trade, Liberalism, and Peace

by Richard M. Ebeling The classical liberals of the nineteenth century were certain that the end of the older mercantilist system — with its government control of trade and commerce, its bounties (subsidies) and prohibitions on exports and imports — would open wide vistas for improving the material conditions of man through the internationalization of the system of division of labor. They also believed that the elimination of barriers to trade and the free intercourse among men would help to significantly reduce if not end the causes of war among nations. The economists of that earlier era had demonstrated the mutual gains from trade that would develop and be reinforced from specialization in productive activities among the people of the world. No longer would the material improveme...

What Will It Take for Americans to Consider Breaking Up?

by Jeff Deist Listen to the Audio Mises Wire version of this article. It’s one thing for mass democracy to produce bad results, in the form of elected politicians or enacted policies. It’s another when the democratic process itself breaks down because nobody trusts the vote or the people who count it. But that’s precisely where we are. As things stand at this writing, last night’s presidential election remains undecided and looking ugly. At least six states are still uncalled, and both the Trump and Biden camps have their legal teams claiming victory. We may be in for days, weeks, or even months of legal skirmishes, all of which can only add to our intense political (or more accurately cultural) breakdown.  Today, perhaps 140 millio...

US Color Revolution: The Not So Phantom Menace

by Tom Luongo “There is no civility, there is only politics…The Bureaucrats are in charge now…”— Senator Palpatine The Black Revolution in the US is proceeding according to script. We are into the 3rd act of it. Act I was the Coronapocalypse setting the stage for vastly expanded government powers and the systemic undermining of the sitting President. Act II was the summer of violence and fake polling data which created the illusion of a society at war with that same President for not addressing the needs of the people. Underneath the headlines the forces arrayed against Trump were building the infrastructure to ensure that however the people voted on November 3rd, the outcome was pre-determined in their favor against him. Act III is the election itself and the aftermath....

Want to Reduce the Trade Deficit? Cut Government Spending.

by Tate Fegley In 2016, then presidential candidate Donald Trump, noting the US trade deficit with China and other countries, stated, We “have a trade war, and we’re losing badly.” The US trade deficit (also known as the current account deficit) was $67 billion in August of this year, according to the Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.  Does this mean the US is continuing to lose on trade? No. When it comes down to it, international balance-of-payments figures do not reveal much. The current account (which consists of the value of exports and imports of finished goods and services, factor services, and net unilateral transfers), as a matter of accounting identity, is necessarily offset by the capital account (which consists of the value of exports and impo...

End the Government’s War on America’s Military Veterans

by  John W. Whitehead “For soldiers … coming home is more lethal than being in combat.” ― Brené Brown, research professor at the University of Houston. The 2020 presidential election may be over, but nothing has really changed. The U.S. government still poses the greatest threat to our freedoms. More than terrorism, more than domestic extremism, more than gun violence and organized crime, even more than the perceived threat posed by any single politician, the U.S. government remains a greater menace to the life, liberty and property of its citizens than any of the so-called dangers from which the government claims to protect us. This threat is especially pronounced for America’s military veterans, especially that portion of the population that exercises their Firs...
